Heart Culture

Heart Culture takes after the scientific practice of cell culture and presents a series of tests to further observe and interrogate the biology of desire and love. Each slide is categorized by patient initials, growth medium, date and grouping. As part of a visceral self-diagnosis of the artist, acrylic heart explants are wet mounted with water onto coated paper like bacteria held in a petri dish or on a microscopic slide.  In the “cultivation process”, the samples are expanded and examined under various levels of magnification which determines their grouping. Revealed in the samples are places embedded with pulsing reefs, surging forests and rolling seabeds. These living, biomorphic worlds help form a greater emotional profile of the patient.
